Tales from Norway SUP Adventure | Around the corner...

We’d spent the whole day soaking up the sun, jumping from rocks and swimming in the fjord. Keeping a close eye on the clouds we knew we’d soon need to load up our boards and paddle on to our camping spot for the night, ensuring we weren’t caught on the water when the heavens opened. It was one of those perfectly timed wild adventures. Tents up just in time before the lightning started.

Thunder shook through the mountains, forks of lightning crackled across the sky. We snuggled up in our tents, sharing snacks and wine until it was safe to go outside and make our dinner on the waters edge.

It was an early night for us all, we knew we faced a tough paddle in the morning into the wind. We’d be leaving one fjord and entering the adjoining one, it’s difficult to predict the conditions past the corner where the fjords meet, we kept everything crossed.

Our morning paddle was as tough as expected, head winds and several kilometres to the corner. Pausing for a quick water stop, we braced ourselves that the days paddle could continue to be a gruelling one.

We paddled round the corner and were greeted with glassy water that glistened, sun rays peeking through the low hanging clouds and no wind!

The water was hard to resist for some of the group, celebrating the stunning views with a swim in the deep and crystal clear water of the fjord.

How could you top this experience? With curious porpoise swimming past us, our first of many sighting of the trip and they continued to follow our journey that day.
