Guest Photo Blog | Megan's 50th Birthday Weekend in Croatia

These past few weeks, I’ve really enjoyed looking back on the last 2 years of adventures! I’ve been going through our extensive photo library and getting a chance to re-edit and remember the incredible experiences I’ve shared with our guests.

A did a little call out for memories and highlights from our guests and I’m excited to share them with you!

Today is Megan’s birthday, we celebrated her 50th last year on a wet weekend in Croatia, but it didn’t dampen the mood or stop the adventure!

Last year I turned 50. To celebrate I booked a long weekend trip with Gutsy Girls along with my friend, Chantelle, to paddle board in Croatia. We were both looking forward to turquoise waters and a bit of sunshine.

As it turned out it poured with rain for most of the weekend, but it has to be one of the funniest, most enjoyable I've ever had.

We landed in Zadar and made our way into town to find the the other Gutsy's and the ferry to take us to the island. It was a gorgeous day and we were thirsty and thrilled to be on holiday.

When we first arrived on the island of Molat we were greeted by Nat, who walked with us up to the accommodation. As we turned down the path, past the clock tower we saw this. And for a moment, thought it was where we were staying. After taking photos and sending them home we snuggled up in our luxury two bed apartment. The boys at home actually believed this was our accommodation!

And cycling in the rain. That was very funny too. We were SO wet!
Do I look like a fruit salad?

Hanging out with this loon was just full of laughs. It was great to be without the kids and all that palaver that comes with them.

After this the weather got worse, we had to leave the island a night before we were due to depart. The boat back to the main land was rather rocky. At short notice Nat managed to book an amazing restaurant. We feasted and laughed some more before spending the night in the local youth hostel. Not something I’d expected to be doing the night before my 50th birthday.

It was such a pleasure to share this weekend with Megan and our 6 other Gutsy Girls! It was one of our wettest weekends, but the rain didn’t stop us from getting out on the water, improving our paddleboarding skills by challenging ourselves in wind and rain and as we were soaked through, there was plenty of wild swimming too.

This was a weekend where we had to adapt quickly to the weather, working with our partners in Croatia we were able to squeeze in as much paddling, hiking and cycling as possible, breaking up activities with hot showers and plenty of delicious hearty food to fuel us.

On our last night, there was a storm heading our way could have prevented us from leaving the island, so we made the decision to head back to the mainland a night early. With our local partners we arranged a great restaurant and rooms at lovely hostel.

AM I TOO OLD TO BE A GUTSY GIRL?

This question often finds it’s way to my inbox, age is not a barrier for adventure!

Our guests generally range from 25-60 years, around 50% of our guests in their 30-40s, we find it hard to pinpoint an age range as every time is completely different and we also never ask :)

We find our trips attract like-minded women, so age never really comes into it! After a day in the waves, hiking to peaks or exploring by SUP everyones ages merge together, all connected by their experiences. It's been so lovely to welcome all ages on our trips and celebrate many landmark birthdays with our guests!

Croatia SUP Weekend

We’ve got a few spots available on our Croatia SUP Weekend this September, with everything crossed we’ll be back to our adventures.

At the moment, our bookings are on pause whilst we wait for more information and guidance, but you can still register your interest in our trips and the moment we have the green light you’ll get first access to the spots!

Our trips are run on a massive scale, which does mean we have limited availability on dates. We focus on small group experiences, to connect solo travellers with likeminded new friends, exploring remote and beautiful locations away from the tourist radar!

So if you want to join us for an adventure, do register your interest for 2020 and 2021!
