Join us in Sweden for an exclusive women-only cross-country ski and yoga retreat. If the idea of a solo trip to Sweden's most glorious snowy peaks sounds too intimidating, Gutsy Girls will turn it into a shared adventure that feels just right
Together, we'll pick up the basis of cross-country skiing and turn the 300 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails in the heart of Bruksvallarna our playground. It doesn't matter if you're a complete newbie or have a bit of ski experience on your boots. This trip is designed so we can get out there, glide through valleys, climb up to jaw-dropping vistas with snowshoes on our heels and feel that rush of cold air on our faces - basically, everything you need to call it an adventure while still having fun.
After a day of carving out our own tracks (or rather following the trails), we’ll head back to our cosy, family-run mountain hotel—where the sauna is always warm, the views are always stunning, and the company all-women.
No chance of boredom during our 7-day adventure. We’ll break up the routine with some snowshoeing adventures, where you can crunch your way through untouched snow and find yourself in some of the most peaceful, remote spots Sweden has to offer. If you feel the aches of the day coming in we'll have organised yoga sessions led by our in-house instructors and a sauna that will melt away any tension. If you're up for a real Scandinavian activity you can also try an invigorating ice bath in an actual chunk of ice before skipping to the sauna.
We’ll be hopping on that same snowcat throughout the week to reach higher altitudes, giving us the perfect chance to practice our cross-country skiing skills and explore even more of the breathtaking landscape. And for the confident among us, there’s the option to be towed behind the snowcat for an extra dose of adrenaline.
Location
Nestled in the heart of Sweden's winter wonderland lies the picturesque village of Bruksvallarna. A renowned spot for cross country skiing with over 300 kilometres of groomed trails that weave through lush valleys and ascend into high mountains. Each trail offers a unique journey through the serene beauty of Swedish nature, from the quiet valleys to the breathtaking mountain vistas.
Activities
Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is one of the oldest forms of skiing, and it’s still going strong for a reason...
Unlike its downhill cousin, when cross-country skiing you're essentially gliding across flat ground and rolling terrain—though don’t worry, there are some gentle downhill sections to keep things exciting without the heart-pounding drops.
Cross-country skiing allows you to explore off the beaten paths and find remote locations that most people close to the ski resort never get to see. No crowds, no lift lines—just the Gutsy Girls and stunning Norwegian landscapes all around us.
Plus, just like the ground, you'll find the learning curve much more manageable. We're sure you'll be stepping into your confidence in just a couple of hours. It’s an energising full body workout that will work on your coordination in the most fun way.
Snowshoeing
Step away from the skis for a day and embrace a new winter experience with our snowshoeing adventure. This refreshing change of pace introduces you to a different winter sport, guiding you through new and uncharted terrains. As we meander among the snow-draped trees, we'll venture deep into the Swedish wilderness.
Mountain Dinner and Snowcat Ride
Embark on an exhilarating snowcat ski ride to the top of the mountain, where a cosy cabin awaits. Indulge in delicious local cuisine amidst the starry night sky, creating a truly unique and memorable dining adventure.
The snowcat will also serve as our transport for some days skiing, for our more experienced skiers there’s the chance to be towed behind it as it climbs the mountain!
Fitness and Experience Level
-
This trip is rated as moderate.
Downhill & Speed: Expect gentle slopes, they aren't very steep, but you will pick up speed. If past downhill skiing experiences left you apprehensive, this sport might not be for you.
Gliding Motion: Cross country skiing is all about the glide, you’ll be aiming to generate speed and momentum! If sliding isn't your thing, this sport might not be for you.
Falling: You’ll likely to take a few tumbles when learning to ski, though these falls are generally softer than in alpine skiing, you’ll need to be comfortable with the idea of falling!
-
Intensity: Cross country skiing often feels like "running with skis on" long flat sections uphill climbs can be physically demanding, so you do need a good level of fitness.
Duration: Daily, you'll be active for 6-7 hours, split into 2-3 hour sessions or occasionally full-day tours.
Distance on Beginner Weeks: We'll cover between 8km to 25km daily. Consider if you can comfortably walk these distances and on consecutive days.
Consecutive Activity: This trip involves several days of back to back activity, which can be tiring.
Comparison with Alpine Skiing: Cross country and alpine skiing are very different sports. Any prior ski experience can help, but foundational training for cross country is essential. Even experienced alpine skiers start as beginners here!
