Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen Island

There are few places on Earth as wild, untouched, and utterly otherworldly as Svalbard. A vast Arctic frontier where glaciers stretch endlessly into the horizon, fjords shimmer under the midnight sun, and polar bears roam across icy tundras. Here, nature reigns supreme, and every moment feels like stepping into an explorer’s dream. Rare wildlife thrives in this remote wonderland—seals bask on ice floes, Arctic foxes dart across rocky shores, and seabirds soar against a backdrop of towering cliffs. And for six unforgettable days, we’ll be right at the heart of it all, paddling through Svalbard’s dramatic landscapes on a truly once-in-a-lifetime expedition.

This is an adventure at its most raw and exhilarating. Weaving through icy fjords and rugged coastlines by kayak, we’ll navigate waters so clear they reflect the sky, camp in some of the most breathtaking locations on the planet, and witness sights that few will ever experience. Led by expert guides, we’ll learn to handle our kayaks with confidence, embrace the Arctic wilderness, and fully disconnect from the world—because this isn’t just a trip; it’s an expedition into the extraordinary.

Location

Over six days, we’ll explore Svalbard in a way few ever do. Kayaking through Skansbukta (Skans Bay), a haven for birdlife and a glimpse into Svalbard’s trapping past, we’ll venture into fjords and remote Arctic waters. We’ll paddle past the eerie ghost town of Pyramiden, once a thriving Soviet settlement. Each night, we’ll camp in a new location, waking up to landscapes that feel like another planet. Expect glaciers teeming with birdlife, the chance to spot seals, and vast tundra stretching endlessly towards the horizon.

Our journey begins and ends in Longyearbyen, the northernmost town in the world. Nestled between rugged mountains and the icy waters of Isfjorden, Longyearbyen is a surreal blend of Arctic remoteness and unexpected comforts. Despite its extreme latitude, the town hums with life, with colourful houses dotting the stark landscape and the midnight sun casts an ethereal glow over the scenery. Longyearbyen is the last stop before the wild unknown, offering a fascinating contrast between civilisation and the raw, untamed beauty of Svalbard.

Kayaking Expedition

This is no ordinary kayaking holiday—it’s an Arctic odyssey. Each day, we’ll pack up camp and paddle deeper into the wilderness, further from civilisation and deeper into the unknown. With nothing but the sound of our paddles slicing through icy waters, we’ll steer through towering fjords and uninhabited shores. This is expedition-style travel at its finest—raw, challenging, and completely off-grid. The first and last nights are spent in the warmth of Gjestehuset 102, but in between, we embrace the wild. It’s a test of resilience, a celebration of adventure, and a journey that will leave us changed - with expert guides providing full training and support every step of the way.

Kayaking

Paddle through the icy waters of Svalbard, navigating deep fjords, glacial coastlines, and remote Arctic wilderness.. Each day brings new landscapes—towering cliffs teeming with seabirds, seals basking on floating ice, untouched shorelines and more. Expert guides provide training on technique, safety, and expedition equipment, ensuring you feel confident on the water.

Wilderness Camping

For three nights, we’ll camp under the Arctic sky, setting up in a new location each night. Learn essential expedition skills—pitching tents, cooking on camp stoves, and adapting to life in the wild. Each campsite is utterly remote, with views that feel like another planet. One night, we’ll sleep near the ghost town of Pyramiden, another in the rugged beauty of Petuniabukta, and the third night in the abandoned base camp of Brucebyen. It’s about embracing the elements and experiencing Svalbard in the rawest, most immersive way possible.

Wildlife

Kayaking through Billefjorden, which is situated at the heart of the expansive Isfjorden, is like being transported into a wildlife documentary. This remote stretch of Arctic wilderness is a sanctuary for some of the most fascinating creatures in the region. Looking skyward gives us a view of a cacophony of seabirds: Kittiwakes, puffins, and guillemots nesting in the rock faces of the towering cliffs. At eye-level, quick-footed Arctic foxes prowl the shorelines. And of course, there’s always the thrill of potentially spotting larger Arctic inhabitants, such as the beluga whale in the icy waters, or even the silhouette of a polar bear in the distance. Yes, these apex predators tend to keep their distance; but even just the mere possibility of a sighting in their natural habitat heightens the excitement and anticipation during the expedition.
